Banisteriopsis caapi | ‘Ayahuasca’, ‘Caapi’, ‘Yagé’ | Leaves
Great quality dried Banisteriopsis caapi leaves; our supply is fair trade, organic and sustainable!
Banisteriopsis caapi is a South American liana of the Malpighiaceae, useful in a variety of different disciplines including soap-making and (apparently for several thousand years) traditional Amazonian indigenous medicine. Arkham’s Botanical offers both dried leaves and dried vine from this species.
Reaching roughly fifteen to twenty metres high in the wild, this multi branched and distinctively twisting vine puts out smooth, deep green oval-ish leaves and delicate, white to pink flowers (approximately two and a half millimetres long and twelve millimetres in diameter) which usually only bloom infrequently.
Caapi thrives in moist, humus-rich soil in warm tropical to semi-tropical climates and is native to the rainforests of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Close relatives include Banisteriopsis membranifolia and Banisteriopsis muricata.
