Horchata (Ecuadorian) | Tasty Beverage | 5g
The name Horchata (or Orxata) is given to a variety of similar-looking and tasting milk and plant-based drinks. One of the rarer types on the wider market is this Ecuadorian Horchata – an infusion of eighteen different sacred herbs and flowers that commonly results in a clear-reddish beverage.
This satisfying Andean organic tea comes from the town of Vilcabamba, in the province of Loja, Ecuador. Apart from being grown organically and sustainably by an indigenous cooperative, it’s also bought and sold on a “fair trade” basis. Horchata makes for a refreshing drink whether hot or cold – simply infuse the blend in hot or cold water for ten to fifteen minutes, optionally adding a few drops of lemon juice and a little raw sugar to taste.
Ingredients: Amaranth flowers, Ataco, Borrage (‘Borraja’), Broadleaf Plantain (‘Llantén’), Escancel (‘Bloodleaf’ – a red-leafed herb that provides the brew’s reddish hue), Lemon Balm, Lemongrass, Melissa (‘Toronjil’), Peppermint, Rose Geranium and eight other secret ingredients sourced from the traditional herbarium…
