Trichocereus bridgesii ‘MM’ x Trichocereus bridgesii ‘Wowie’ | 25 seeds

Here’s another excellent hybrid cactus offering – the mighty Trichocereus bridgesii ‘MM’ x Trichocereus bridgesii ‘Wowie’! While not as well known as some other Trichocereus crossbreeds, this really is a great addition to any collection – and it’s yet another of our UK exclusives

Both parent strains for this hybrid are impressive named clones of Trichocereus bridgesii (syn. Echinopsis lageniformis – commonly known as ‘Bolivian Torch’), a fast-growing columnar type which reaches a maximum height of roughly six metres, branching out at the base to form stems of up to around twenty centimetres thick. Mature bridgesii can grow up to thirty centimetres a year in ideal conditions!

Closely-related to Trichocereus pachanoi and Trichocereus peruvianus (‘Peruvian Torch’), bridgesii really is a beautiful plant – highly recognisable by its fierce spines that can reach up to ten centimetres in length! As with some other Trichocereus species, it has been used by Bolivian shaman in healing rituals and is regarded by them as possessing sacred and protective properties. The species is also grown as an ornamental and as a universal grafting stock, offering a high success rate and a long-lifetime of speedy and consistent growth.

These hybrid seeds are very easy to germinate and grow and their main requirements consist of high humidity levels, a free-draining soil mix and enough water, light and nutrients. They can easily be grown indoors in the UK and Europe.

I’m sorry to report that these are not doing well. Only a single seed has germed since planting 23 on 9/9/2019 using the takeaway method. I guess these are the exception – the other two varieties I’ve planted from here are spectacular. 2/3 ain’t bad- still love you guys.

<3 We love you too, but that is rather disappointing to hear! We’ve enjoyed success with these ourselves and would always advise hanging in there for a few weeks more, just in case…in our experience, sometimes some seed can be a little late to the germination party.

Two really awesome bridges combined together – I’ve already got these seeds in my takeaway container for sprouting–can’t wait!

      Go for it!
