Trichocereus huarazensis (syn. Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Huarazensis’) | ~8-10cm rooted plant
We’re rather pleased to be able to sell these excellent rooted Trichocereus huarazensis cacti! Don’t expect these seed-grown plants to be re-stocked anytime soon once they’re sold out, especially as they’re another of our UK exclusives…
Huarazensis is an intriguing putative species about which little is known. However, it’s certainly encouraged much discussion among Trichocereus/Echinopsis aficionados around the globe! Possessing quite distinctive stem growth and flower buds, all the plants currently encountered in cultivation apparently originate from only two collections, reportedly made in or around Huaraz, Peru. However, some people believe Trichocereus huarazensis to be simply a Peruvian locality variety of Trichocereus pachanoi, which would more properly make it Trichocereus pachanoi var. huarazensis.
This cactus form will grow happily in USDA Hardiness Zones 8-11 or indoors. Plant it in mildly acidic to mildly alkaline soil, preferably somewhere in light shade to full sun. Space the cacti at least a metre apart so that they have enough space to grow to their full mature size. Allow the soil to completely dry out between waterings, reducing over the winter months as per your local climate.
