Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Bach’ x Trichocereus ‘Malo4’ | 25 seeds
We’re pleased to offer (albeit in limited quantities) this great Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Bach’ x Trichocereus ‘Malo4’ hybrid cactus seed. Yet another of our fabulous UK exclusives!
‘Bach’ is a nice American clone of pachanoi (syn. Echinopsis pachanoi, ‘San Pedro’), a fast-growing columnar species native to Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. Light to dark green in colour, ‘San Pedro’ averages around six metres tall in USDA Hardiness Zones 8-10, but has been known to reach twice that! Its stems branch from the base and grow up to fifteen centimetres in diameter.
Closely-related to Trichocereus bridgesii (‘Bolivian Torch’) and Trichocereus peruvianus (‘Peruvian Torch’), it’s grown as an ornamental, for fence wood and for grafting stock (which offers a high success rate and a long-lifetime of speedy and consistent growth) and has been used by indigenous peoples in their religious practices.
Unfortunately, we don’t have too much information to pass on regarding Trichocereus ‘Malo4’, other than it’s reportedly a hybrid between Trichocereus scopulicola and Trichocereus huarazensis and is the mother plant for the crossbreed offered here. A rather distinctive strain, it originates from plants obtained from a Nook forum member in 2010, who apparently bought many of his mother plants from the legendary Karel Kníže.
These hybrid seeds are very easy to germinate and grow and their main requirements consist of high humidity levels, a free-draining soil mix and enough water, light and nutrients. They can easily be grown indoors in the UK and Europe.
