Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Murcia #2’ | ‘Achuma’, ‘San Pedro’ | ~30cm unrooted cutting
This one’s another great seed-grown ‘San Pedro’ cactus which we obtained from our Spanish friends; Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Murcia #2’! Available as an approximately thirty centimetre long/high unrooted cutting taken from our mother plants, this variety is another of our fabulous UK exclusives!
Trichocereus pachanoi (syn. Echinopsis pachanoi) is a fast-growing columnar cactus which is originally from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. Besides ‘San Pedro’, other informal names for this species include ‘Achuma’, ‘Aguacolla’, ‘Giganton’, ‘Hahuacollay’, ‘Huachuma’ and ‘Wachuma’. A near relative of Trichocereus bridgesii (‘Bolivian Torch’), Trichocereus macrogonus and Trichocereus peruvianus (‘Peruvian Torch’), this cactus is native to the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Andes, favouring an altitude of between 2,012 and 2,987 metres.
A light to dark green-coloured cactus which grows to approximately twelve metres high under ideal conditions in USDA Hardiness Zones 8-10, Trichocereus pachanoi forms multiple branches from its base, each up to fifteen centimetres in diameter.
Pachanoi is able to handle growing in far lower temperatures than do many other cactus species, hence it’s quite easy to grow indoors and outdoors in most areas of the world. Producing an average of roughly thirty centimetres growth per year (under suitable conditions), Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Murcia #2’ can be propagated from seed or cuttings, requiring only fertile, free-draining soil and regular watering.
