Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Torres & Torres’ x Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Yowie’ | 25 seeds

Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Torres & Torres’ x Trichocereus pachanoi ‘Yowie’ is an incredibly desirable hybrid of two much sought-after named clones! Available in extremely limited amounts, this seed is also another of our UK exclusives!

The father for this cross – the coveted ‘Torres & Torres’ clone – originates from an apparently wild pachanoi collection from Northern Chile, made by ethnobotanical researchers Manuel Torres and Donna Torres well outside of the species currently accepted range. Recognisable by its cool paired spines, the mother, ‘Yowie’, is an interesting Australian ‘San Pedro’ with pronounced ribs, which reportedly originates from the famous Fields collection and came to the collecting community via the SAB members ‘Marsha’ (aka ‘Yowie’) and ‘PD’, who obtained cuttings from the original mother plant in Yarrawonga.

Trichocereus pachanoi (syn. Echinopsis pachanoi – informally known as ‘San Pedro’) is a fast-growing columnar cactus occurring naturally in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru (notably, in the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Andes, at 2,011-2,987 metres). An attractive, light to dark green cactus which reaches up to approximately six metres tall once mature (although the highest recorded was roughly twelve metres!) under suitable conditions in USDA Zones 8-10. Growing multiple branches from the plants base, its stems can be as thick as fifteen centimetres and usually have between six and eight ribs. Pachanoi can withstand far lower temperatures than can many other cacti, which makes it quite easy to grow indoors and outdoors in most areas.

As with some other Trichocereus species (such as the closely related Trichocereus bridgesii and Trichocereus peruvianus), this species has been used by South American shaman in healing rituals and is regarded by them as possessing sacred and protective properties. Besides this traditional use, it’s also regarded as a universal grafting stock, offering a high success rate and a long-lifetime of speedy and consistent growth.

These hybrid seeds are very easy to germinate and grow and their main requirements consist of high humidity levels, a free-draining soil mix and enough water, light and nutrients. They can easily be grown indoors in the UK and Europe.

All the seed sold by Arkham’s Botanical was freshly and ethically sourced
