Papaver somniferum ‘Danebrog’ | ‘Opium Poppy’ | Seeds
Papaver somniferum ‘Danebrog’ is a highly popular and very colourful variety of the famous ‘Opium Poppy’. Named after the Danish national flag, with which it shares its red and white coloration, this magnificent poppy is commonly grown as an ornamental and for the large amounts of tasty and nutritious seed which it produces.
An eye-catching strain of Papaver somniferum, ‘Danebrog’ is crowned with gorgeous, red and white flowers and grows to roughly one metre tall. Easily cultivated from seed, somniferum grows in full and sheltered sun, in clay, chalk, loam or sand (either acid, alkaline or neutral). Just make sure that you’re somewhere in USDA Hardiness Zones 7-11, allow adequate drainage and you’ll soon have your very own – wildly colourful – poppy patch!
