Papaver somniferum ‘Hungarian Blue’ | ‘Opium Poppy’ | ~100 seeds
Papaver somniferum ‘Hungarian Blue’ is another amazing variety of the famous ‘Opium Poppy’! Considered to be an heirloom type of the species, apart from it’s captivating flowers, ‘Hungarian Blue’ (also sometimes known as the ‘Bread-seed Poppy’) was initially bred for its large, easily-harvested seed pods, which produce an incredible amount of seeds. As with many Papaver species, this seed is prized for use in making bread and its other culinary applications.
There aren’t many species easier to grow than poppies, and this one grows with full and sheltered sun and in clay, chalk, loam or sand – whether acid, alkaline or neutral – provided it’s well-drained and situated in USDA Hardiness Zones 7-11.
All the seed sold by Arkham’s Botanical was freshly and ethically sourced
