Papaver somniferum ‘Oase’ | ‘Opium Poppy’ | ~100 seeds
One of the absolutely fantastic Paeoniiflorum group of poppies, ‘Oase’ (also known as ‘Scarlet Oase’) is a captivating Papaver somniferum (‘Opium Poppy’) variety, prized for its fabulous, fringed double-flowers. This really is an especially magnificent type of Papaver somniferum, crowned with large, frilled red-scarlet-pink-white flowers and growing to roughly one metre tall. ‘Oase’ generally blooms between late spring and early autumn, making for a truly awesome sight!
Easily cultivated from seed, somniferum grows in full and sheltered sun, in clay, chalk, loam or sand (either acid, alkaline or neutral). Just make sure that you’re somewhere in USDA Hardiness Zones 7-11, allow adequate drainage and at least thirty centimetres or so space around each plant and you’ll soon have your very own eye-catching poppy stand.
