Description
Acacia burkittii | ‘Burkitt’s Wattle’, ‘Fine Leaf Jam Wattle’, ‘Gunderbluey’, ‘Pin Bush’, ‘Sandhill Wattle’ | 25 seeds
Common to parts of southwestern Western Australia (extending east towards South Australia), Acacia burkittii is a perennial shrub of the Fabaceae family. Latterly, the species has also been introduced into India.
The Fine Leaf Jam Wattle grows as an erect or spreading shrub and, like many Acacia species, forms phyllodes rather than leaves. Preferring eucalypt, mallee and mulga woodland or shrubland (often on sandhills), the species can reach roughly four metres in height once mature and it flowers from July to October.
Interestingly, burkittii was originally thought to be a subspecies of Acacia acuminata (of which we also carry some lovely seed), until a recent reclassification officially established it as a separate species. The seed we have is from a grower we know in Australia and we’re the only place you can get it in the UK!
